Las Cumbres Community Services promotes the health and well-being of people of all ages in northern New Mexico. Our mission is to provide quality services, public awareness, and integrated community supports for children, adults and families facing social, emotional and/or developmental challenges.

November 2012 Update - lots of good news! We have received National Recognition and grants for many of our programs.....

(1) Most recently we applied for and received a substantial grant from SAMHSA. We are now part of their National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI) as a Community Treatment and Services Center. We will initially be serving Rio Arriba, Santa Fe and Los Alamos counties, but the grant will also allow us to expand to three additional counties over the next 4 years.

(2) We also received a NM Children’s Trust Fund grant this year which is targeted at improving the referral linkages for Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood Behavioral Health services with Rio Arriba primary health organizations. We are working with El Centro Family Health on the initial pilot project. We will also reach out to all primary health organizations in Rio Arriba, including Espanola Hospital. Our goal is to reach every child in Rio Arriba County who needs Las Cumbres services.

(3) We were awarded a grant from the NM Community Trust to expand Early Childhood services in the Chama River Valley. We are working with community leaders in the Chama River Valley to determine the best way to expand the availability of these services.

(4) We were awarded grants from the Con Alma Foundation to initiate a Grandparents raising Grandchildren program. Approximately 60% of grandparents in NM are raising grandchildren with very little assistance. We are providing monthly support meetings and recently held an all day conference at Northern New Mexico College which attracted over 80 participants.

We also run a Fatherhood program to provide support and education for young and not so young fathers in Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties. Our goal is to keep fathers productively involved in the lives of their children.

Las Cumbres Community Services is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that promotes the health and well-being of people of all ages in northern New Mexico. Agency direct services—offered primarily in Rio Arriba, Los Alamos and Santa Fe Counties—along with statewide training, education, outreach and referral activities, benefit more than 8,000 individuals each year through a wide range of programs in four major areas of emphasis:

•Adult Services, providing residential, employment and community integration support for individuals with developmental disabilities;
•Respite and Personal Care, offering support for families of children and adults with disabilities;
•Child and Family Services, with special focus on early intervention and early childhood mental health for children from birth to age five;
•Early Childhood Mental Health Training Institute, a two-year certificate program offering multidisciplinary training to early childhood mental health providers across the state.

All Las Cumbres programs are operated on the belief that services should be easily accessible, consumer driven, relationship based, culturally appropriate, and built on individual strengths and natural supports in order to best meet the needs of each individual served. Many of the agency’s programs are recognized as models for innovative and effective approaches to enhancing human potential and development in culturally diverse and rural areas.

Today the agency is one of the largest social service providers in northern New Mexico. With a staff of close to 200 individuals, it is also one of the largest employers in Rio Arriba County, where its central office is located. A satellite office is located in Santa Fe.

Direct services are offered in Rio Arriba, Los Alamos and Santa Fe Counties, while education, outreach and referral activities impact the entire state. All told, agency activities benefit more than 8,000 individuals each year in four major areas of emphasis:
